This was intresting as we had both read it before, although it’s been long enoiugh we forgot the pertinent points of it. Like I knew the ending (and I hope everyone else does by now since the book/movie has been out for years. Hence spoilers under cut)

Like I knew Kya killed her attacker but forgot how she did it, and even knowing that, I still found it hard looking at the clues and piecing them together. The fact that she got away with it shows a precisionary brilliance, but I also felt it strained creduality.

My friend felt the same. While Kyra is very smart from reading despite her lack of traditional education, she primarily read nature/wildlife books and those things don’t teach you the importance of having an alibi or how to create an airtight one. The fact she got off because of the hair particles was pure luck.

Still it’s a good story with a distinctive voice highlighting the cruelty of the human world compared to the animal kingdom with some funny bits.
