1. Tales from a Not-So-Popular Party Girl

This was the first book I read from the series even though it’s the second. My mom got it from some used books bin so yeah. Anyway the hilarious running around Nikki went through trying to juggle the three different parties literally made me breathless from laughter. That plus the (now outdated) current pop culture references with Nikki’s fiesty dialogue contrasted with her more wimpier actions made it feel relatable. From there I was hooked.
2. Tales from a Not-So-Happy-Heartbreaker

This was such a triumph for Nikki and it made my heart swoon to see her finally get her big dance with Brandon. Not to mention, the big ol Valentine’s Day crown. Not only was it filled with suitable romantic tension but had it’s moments of humor with Nikki’s month long fight against swim class. Plus the art for when the girls go to the dance is just gorgeous.
3. Tales from a Not-So-Happily Ever After

Have I mentioned that I enjoy fractured fairytales? And the fact that this whole entry is set during April Fool’s Day only adds to the joke. So it’s quite fun to see Nikki’s world reimagined with various fairytale characters that are surprisingly well-fitted. Plus some very sweet sisterly bonding that reminds readers how much Nikki and Brianna care for each other even as they drive each other insane.
4. Tales from a Not-So-Dorky Drama Queen

I loved this book in the limelight for Mackenzie. It adds some freshness to the story with not only a new art style but insight to the queen of mean. While she’s still her vicious self-absorbed self, it shows her life isn’t all that cracked up to be with her distant parents and bratty sister. Hey, the latter is something she could commiserate with Nikki, if she hadn’t gone on to scheming to ruin Nikki’s life. Ah something’s never change.
5. Tales from a Not-So-Fabuous Life

The one that started it all. Of course it had to take one spot in the top 5. While it doesn’t have as many memorable moments, I do appreciate the intro it is to Nikki’s world. It’s a bit more realistic compared to the zaniness of the others. Yet the humor is still there. It’s just sweet and fun and I really miss the Nikki, Chloe and Zoey running around, having fun as librarian assistants. And the umbrella scene between Brandon and Nikki. . . just a perfect beginning.
