My Not So Perfect Life

Cat has been telling her parents she has the perfect life back in London working at an advertising company. Really, it’s her flighty yet shrewd boss, Demeter who has the perfect life. Something which all her co-workers and her resent for the way she steps on their toes and requests them to wash her hair for events. However, when Demeter fires her, she is sent back home to her family farm/b n b. Which she lies, saying she has been sent on a sabatical in order not to crush her father’s joy in his girl making out there in the business world. But months later, Demeter and her family come to the bnb and Cat is furious how Demeter doesn’t even remember the lowly girl she fired, that she still has her perfect life. Well that puts Cat in the perfect place for revenge. But as you can tell by the title not everyone’s life is as perfect as it seems. Cat learns the truth about Demeter and discovers some heavy truths for herself and what she wants in her professional and romantic life.

Surprise Me

A loving couple Sylvia and Dan get hit by the extenstial hammer that is mortality when a doctor friend informs them that life expectency for people are getting shorter, not longer. So the two decide you only live once and want to kick some spice in their marriage after being so consumed with their twin girls. It’s some very steamy friend and some accidental mishaps from outdoor excursions to sexy photos but it also brings out family secrets. I won’t spoil it, but I enjoy how it shows the strains of parents that can influence a marriage and break its bond as well as love can make you too overprotective of one another.

Shopaholic and Sister

This was my favorite of the Shopaholic series simply because of the big twist that Becky has an unknown half sister. One whose enviromentally friend, activist minded, and totally into the essentials, not a shopaholic at all. No matter. Though they have nothing in common, Becky is determined to endear herself to her sister in her oblivious Becky way. Of course things end up belly up and sideways with some broken legs here and there thanks to Sophie’s spending on an outrageously priced bag during her honeymoon, which bites her on the ass later. But mostly, I enjoyed the bond they come to forge together and having tone down some of Becky’s impulses while freeing up Jessica’s.

Twenties Girl

Lara had a normal life until she attends the funeral of her great aunt Sadie. A boring task since she didn’t know the women, but she goes anyway. Only to be haunted by the ghost of Sadie, now in her prime as a flapper from the 20s who enlists Lara to find a long lost necklace so she can find some peace. Therein she discovers some ugly family secrets as well as muses on the memory we leave. Great development for both Sadie and Lara with some exciting romances as well.

Shopaholic and Baby

I remember when this was such a big event and I ate it up too. While pregnancy is not everyone’s cup of tea, it is for Becky. At least when it comes to buying all the baby supplies, clothes, playsets and more, she can’t stop herself. What’s not so glowing about this whole pregnancy business when the celbrity pediatrician she requested is also Luke’s college ex who seems to be undermining her while flirting with her husband! Not to mention instead of getting closer with her mother friend, Suze, she is driven apart by another mom on the block. Things are always crazy in Becky’s life but for once it’s not entirely financial problems But if you know anything about Becky Bloomwood, it always turns out to rights and stylishly so.
